Spiritual Direction

Spiritual Direction is help given by one believer to another that enables the latter to pay attention to God’s personal communication to him or her, to respond to this personally communicating God, to grow in intimacy with this God, and to live out the consequences of the relationship.
— Barry & Connolly, "The Practice of Spiritual Direction"

With one ear tuned to God and the other to you, this is a time for deep conversation, listening and prayer as you attend to the presence and activity of God in your life.

These meetings can be done in person or via Skype and each appointment usually lasts about one hour. We typically meet together once a month but that can vary depending on your needs. Everything shared is held in strict confidence.

Spiritual Direction aims to bring all the areas of our lives before God, believing that God is present in every vocational question, relational struggle, emotional stirring, physical pain, and spiritual journey. Spiritual Direction gently draws our attention to God's loving presence in all of those areas as we invite the Holy Spirit to be our true Director. Perhaps this quote by Thomas Hart will reinforce this idea:

God is the deepest dimension in all the areas of human life, and thus all areas are open to spiritual direction. The purpose of direction will be to sensitize people further to the presence and action of God in their lives, and to assist them to make a fuller and more appropriate response to it. The objectives are that simple: awareness, response.
— Thomas Hart, "The Art of Christian Listening"

Spiritual Direction is for everyone, no matter how far along they perceive themselves on their journey with God. We can all use another listening ear, a willing companion on our journey who listens with the intent of pointing out the signs of God on the horizon of our lives.

What Others Are Saying

"Adam is an attentive and gifted soul friend. His passion for wholeness and healing is evident as he listens with grace to the working of the Spirit. As we have sat together, Adam consistently meets me where I am in joy and sorrow, while trusting the Spirit of God to speak into my life. I am most thankful for Adam’s encouragement in learning to live more fully in God’s steadfast love." --Lynn
